*Not* Post-racial America

Unfortunately, my "Post-Racial America" series seems to be taking over my blog.

This image was spotted in a Barnes and Noble in Coral Gables, Florida.

After researching the incident...

The good thing is the Barnes and Noble store nor it's employees were responsible for the switching of the window display.

The bad thing is someone was. Someone wanted to make their statement.

Here is more information on the incident, found in The Defenders Online.

Need I say again...we are NOT in post-racial America????

I think all of those incidents are despicable and horrible.

But that beings said, I don't think our entire society should be labeled based on the actions of a few people.

We can't let a few bad incidents outweigh the good that is happening today....

I don't know what the definition of "post-racial" is. If it means there never ever ever be any discrimination, derogatory remarks ever again, then we will never reach it. Sadly, racism will probably always be here just like murder, slander, child abuse, ignorance etc etc etc.

I think that its offensive that the media and blogs are passing along these photos. You can discuss & report something without showing it.

Saying it will always exist allows us to become complacent. The fact is (and to speak to your point, Anonymous 1:42), we need to see that these things still *do* exist. We've got to stop tip-toeing around them. The postcard is a painful reminder that we have a long way to go. We need to have to face that.

Too many people claim that we are in post-racial America because they don't have to see and experience the incidents that are still occurring.

As Eric Holder stated in his address, in order for us to heal, we have to begin speaking honestly about this issue. It starts with us.
